There are many hiking trails in the area suitable for all levels and preferences. We have categorized the best hikes into four categories: family/beginner, athletic, full-day and long-distance.

Family or beginner hikes in the Saguenay

Parc de la Rivière-du-Moulin

For families or individuals who want to go for an easy hike, parc de la Rivière-du-Moulin is perfect! Located in the heart of the city, this park is well loved by locals because it is accessible, spacious and versatile. The park is perfect for a great number of activities, but the main one is walking.

What a joy to hear the melodious sounds of the river’s waterfalls and little animals, like birds or squirrels! This park has 35 kilometres of semi-urban or rustic trails, making it an ideal spot for short or long hikes.

Le Mirador trail

This easy trail is a perfect family activity! Located in the enchanting parc national des Monts-Valin, this trail is three kilometres round trip. It should take about an hour to complete.

It stands out with enchanting decor and a view of the monts Valin from the summit. Even though it’s located in a national park, it’s still very accessible for beginners and families.

Bec-Scie Outdoor Centre

With its magnificent canyon, waterfalls, lookouts and well-maintained trails, the Bec-Scie Outdoor Centre is definitely a perfect place to discover on a short hike in Saguenay!

In total, more than 120 kilometres of nature trails are available to you. It’s only a few kilometres to get to your destination, perfect for a short hike with the family!

Zone Portuaire de Chicoutimi

To discover all the charm of Saguenay’s urban area, we invite you to the Zone Portuaire de Chicoutimi. With its long wooden walkway, fountains and proximity to the Saguenay River, the park is a wonderful place to explore on foot. Additionally, thanks to the bike path that runs along the Saguenay River, there’s plenty of room to walk for a long time.

Athletic hikes

De la Statue trail

This 7.6-kilometre hike located in parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay is one of the most popular in the region! Along the way, you’ll have the chance to observe all the fjord’s beauty from several breathtaking viewpoints. Just before turning back, you’ll be able to see the famous statue of Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay, which was erected there in 1881.

Les Caps trail (to the Géant lookout)

Still in parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay is the perfect hike for athletes: the Les Caps Trail. It takes between four and five hours to complete this 10.2-kilometre hike. Careful! The trail’s total length is 18 kilometres (see the last paragraph of this article), so you’ll need to turn around after admiring the panorama from the Géant lookout.

This trail located in parc national des Monts-Valin is very popular: you’re likely to cross paths with other athletes during your hike. This eight-kilometre-long trail, which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete, will lead you to an almost magical place with a seemingly endless view of the forest in the park. Tips and tricks: bring along a lunch to enjoy at the summit, while admiring the magnificent landscape.

The Eucher path

This trail is perfect for a hike and workout in one. The main path, which is the most frequently used, is 2.9-kilometre long. That said, the Eucher path offers another option, the Les Berges trail, which allows you to extend your hike and thus enjoy the outdoors for a bit longer.

You can choose to extend your hike to 6.4 kilometres or even up to 12.6 kilometres if you decide to take the longer route. This free hike is a must-do for many hikers! It also offers several exceptional views of the Saguenay Fjord.

Des Chutes trail (to Montagne Blanche)

This magnificent 13.8-kilometre hike will take you to the highest peak accessible on foot in parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay. A pleasant surprise awaits you at the end of your ascent: a spectacular 360-degree view of the mountains. It should take between six and seven hours to complete this athletic hike.

Pic-de-la-Hutte

Pic-de-la-Hutte is one of the many hikes one can go on at parc national des Monts-Valin. We suggest you do the long version of this hike, which covers 16 kilometres. The trail starts at the Discovery and Visitor Centre. It’s a very beautiful trail and a physical challenge for hikers!

Long-distance hikes

Le Fjord trail

With a total length of 41 kilometres, this long trail is part of the parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay. It is recommended to take between three and four days to complete the trail in its entirety. Along the way, accommodations of all kinds are available for overnight stays. What’s more, there are several viewpoints accessible to you on the trail, revealing breathtaking panoramic views.

You need to be an experienced hiker to take on this hike, but the hard work is definitely worth it; it’s an exceptional experience.

Les Caps trail

This long-distance nature trail in the Baie-Éternité area has a total distance of 27 to 32 kilometres and is accessible in various ways. You can therefore adjust the route according to your desire or availability. No matter what you choose, it is advised to do the entirety of this hike over three days.

Please note that the route can be taken in both directions. You will also be able to take advantage of a shuttle service to return to the starting point after your excursion.
