The must-see winter destinations

Winter in Saguenay is simply magical! The landscape transforms and drapes itself in a dazzling white blanket. The region turns into a true adventure paradise. Looking for things to do in Saguenay? Discover the multitude of unforgettable winter activities our region has to offer.

Try ice fishing

Ice fishing on the Saguenay Fjord is a true regional tradition during the winter season. Every year, hundreds of small fishing huts and anglers gather on the frozen waters to try their luck at catching a variety of fish. An absolute must-see!

From a distance, the tiny fishing huts placed in the middle of the vast fjord create a magical scene! Even if you don’t fish, we recommend going to take it all in!

Whether you’re an ice fishing enthusiast or not, you can rent one of these huts (heated, of course) and have fun fishing. Depending on your preferred location, we recommend getting in touch with Contact Nature, which offers several fishing sites, or with the company Pêche Aventures Saguenay.

Hit the slopes on skis or a snowboard

If you love sliding sports, this is the perfect winter destination for you! With its nordic climate and generous snowfall, the region is surrounded by mountains that are just perfect for skiing.

A true must-visit, Le Valinouët ski resort offers nothing less than 100% natural snow. That’s right! There are no snow cannons whatsoever! Located in the heart of the Monts-Valin, this resort is a favourite among locals and tourists alike. With its 33 natural snow runs, two slopes, enchanting nordic landscape and alpine village, this resort is truly a must for skiing and family activities.

Another beautiful mountain to discover is Mont Edouard. Located in Anse-Saint-Jean, this mountain offers 44 runs and a 450-metre vertical drop. In addition, this resort features an extraordinary ski touring territory with no fewer than six different sectors to explore.

If you’d rather practice cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, running or hiking, we invite you to visit the magnificent Centre plein air Le Norvégien. Located in Jonquière, this centre has developed considerably in recent years, making it a winter must for many, especially for family activities.

Visit the Vallée des Fantômes – Monts-Valin National Park

Vallée Des Fantômes Parc National Des Monts Valin

Get ready for a memorable day with a visit to Monts-Valin National Park. Every winter, this area just outside the city of Saguenay receives an average of about five metres of snow. All this snow accumulates on thousands of trees, creating what are known as “snow ghosts.”

This natural phenomenon completely transforms the landscape, giving it a majestic, and even magical, appearance!

You absolutely must go see these famous “snow ghosts.” By snowshoe or aboard the Fantôme-Express shuttle, you’ll be able to admire this breathtaking landscape that looks like it belongs on another planet.

Located in Bas-Saguenay, in Anse-Saint-Jean, you’ll find the family company Entre chien et loup. They offer you an unmatched sense of freedom through a dog sled outing. After your activity, you can also spend the night on site, in a house with the charm of a traditional Quebec barn. Perfect for a family outing or a trip with friends!
