How do you get to Saguenay? Here is all the information you’ll need to travel to the region, regardless of where you’re coming from.
Saguenay Fjord, made up of both the city of Saguenay and the MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay, is located in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, in Quebec, Canada. It is approximately 200 kilometres north of the city of Quebec and about 500 kilometres north-east of Montreal.
There’s more than one way to reach Saguenay. Discover all the possible modes of transportation to reach your destination.
To drive to Saguenay from Montreal, take either highway 40 East or highway 20 East, towards Quebec City. Once you get there, look for the “Saguenay / Highway 75 North” indications and you’ll reach the Réserve faunique des Laurentides, commonly called “Le Parc des Laurentides” or “La route 175”.
Don’t forget to fill up your gas tank before driving through the park as there is only one stop along that road, about a 100 km from Quebec.
It takes approximately five hours from Montreal to Saguenay.
Coming from the Charlevoix region? Either take Route 381 or Route 170.
And if you’re coming from the Côte-Nord region, take Route 172.
It may be worthwhile to consider carpooling to get to Saguenay by car. Services like Amigo Express are available for people wanting to carpool.
To reach Saguenay by bus, head to an Autocar bus company terminus in the province and check the current schedules and routes.
If you’d rather fly to Saguenay, there are daily flights from Montreal that land at the Saguenay-Bagotville airport, the official regional airport of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. It a 55-minute flight.
You can also take a train to Saguenay. You can take the VIA Rail and arrive at the Jonquière train station.
