Access to the region and getting around
How do I get to the Saguenay? Here you'll find all the information you need to get to Saguenay, no matter where you're starting from.
The Saguenay Ford territory, comprising the city of Saguenay and the Fjord-du-Saguenay MRC, is located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, in the province of Quebec, Canada. It lies about 200 kilometers north of Quebec City and about 500 kilometers northeast of Montreal.
There's more than one way to get there. Discover all the modes of transport available to get you to your destination.
To get here by car from Montreal, simply take Highway 40 north to Quebec City, or Highway 20. From there, go straight ahead and follow the signs for "Saguenay". The trip takes approximately five hours.
You will then arrive in the Réserve faunique des Laurentides, commonly known as "Le Parc" or Route 175. Keep driving, and you'll arrive at your destination after about two hours.
Before crossing Réserve faunique des Laurentides, don't forget to fill up your car with fuel, as the only stopping point on this long road is L'étape, located halfway along. You should also be particularly careful on this route, as road conditions can sometimes play tricks on you, especially in winter.
If you're coming from the Charlevoix region, take either Route 381 or Route 170. If you're coming from the Côte-Nord region, just take Route 172. These three routes will take you through postcard-worthy scenery, so take your time on them.
To get to Saguenay by car, it's also worth considering carpooling. For carpooling, use the Amigo Express service. You can also rent a car through a rental agency.
To get to Saguenay by bus, simply visit one of the province's Intercar bus terminals and consult the list of available schedules and routes.
Did you know that Saguenay has two airports?
The Saguenay-Bagotville airport allows you to arrive directly in Saguenay, even if you're flying from another Quebec city, or even from certain destinations outside Canada.
You can also travel around the region via Saint-Honoré airport.
You can also get to Saguenay by train. This mode of transportation is provided by VIA Rail, and the arrival point is the Jonquière train station.
